Today, IT-specialist is a broad concept that combines representatives of many professions working in the field of information technology. These are all kinds of programmers, developers, network and database administrators, moderators, robotics and information security specialists, web designers and even 3D animators. At the same time, with the penetration of information technology into new areas of activity, new professions for IT specialists appear.

Every year, Estonia estimates its need for IT specialists at an additional 1,500 people, of which 70% have higher education, 30% have specialized ones. The most promising are people with higher education in interdisciplinary areas. Also, highly qualified developers, system analysts/architects in the field of software development and telecommunications are most in demand in Estonia. [2]

In Estonia most popular programming languages are Java, JavaScript, .Net, Python, PHP, C++ and C#.

In comparison with the beginning of the 2000s, when specialists were required mainly to speak English, knowledge of programming and analytical skills, this is now not enough. Companies are looking for professionals who have:

  • understanding the value of the product to the customer
  • enterprise
  • ability to negotiate
  • presentation and sales skills
  • emotional intellect
  • ability to manage time, own efficiency, work on time
  • flexibility
  • creativity
  • mentoring and teaching others [1]
In conclusion, every year, the demand for specialists who understand information technology is increasing. Companies in Estonia need developers, designers, targetologists, analysts, copywriters, marketers and many other specialists who help businesses to express themselves and actively promote themselves on the Internet and social networks.
